Tennessee Titans final: TEN 36, CIN 43

By , TitansCountry · · Updated

Titans fall 43-36 in overtime to the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium, a game Tennessee led by 13 early and again by seven with under four minutes left. Joe Burrow's 9-yard touchdown run with 7:00 left in overtime ended it, and the Titans drop to 1-7 while Cincinnati moves to 5-2.

Titans fast start. Tennessee owned the first quarter. Joey Slye hit a 46-yard field goal, Tony Pollard broke a 40-yard touchdown run, and Slye added a 29-yarder for a 13-0 lead after one. Cincinnati answered with Ja'Marr Chase's 30-yard touchdown catch and a 1-yard Jack Endries touchdown with 20 seconds left in the half, so the Bengals took a 14-13 lead into the locker room.

Back-and-forth second half. Tee Higgins' 17-yard touchdown made it 21-13 before Pollard scored from a yard out and Cam Ward ran in the two-point try to tie it 21-21. A safety on a Pollard run late in the third put Cincinnati up 23-21. Ward found Chimere Dike for an 11-yard touchdown to retake the lead 28-23, Mike Gesicki's 25-yard score (two-point try failed) flipped it back to 29-28, and Ward hit Wan'Dale Robinson for 15 yards plus Gunnar Helm on the two-point pass for a 36-29 Titans lead with 3:46 to go. Burrow and Higgins tied it again on an 18-yard touchdown with 1:17 left, and the Bengals won the overtime.

By the numbers. Ward was 26 of 40 for 304 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions, and added 41 rushing yards on seven carries. Pollard ran 21 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Helm led the receivers with five catches for 76 yards, Dike had five for 71 and a score, and Robinson caught six for 57 and a score. Amani Hooker picked off Burrow three times and broke up three passes, and Anthony Hill Jr. made 14 tackles.

Tennessee piled up 440 total yards (158 rushing), went 3 for 4 in the red zone and won the turnover battle 4-2, but two lost fumbles, 10 penalties for 73 yards and a Bengals passing game that put up 435 net yards were too much. Burrow finished 38 of 48 for 462 yards and five touchdowns with three interceptions, plus the winning run. Higgins caught 10 passes for 155 yards and two scores, and Chase had 11 for 141 and a score.

What's next: the Titans host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, Nov. 15, at 12:00 PM CT on Fox.
