The Titans Said Sorry. Fans Need More Than Words.
Titans fans finally heard from the top of the building. It just wasn't the owner.
Our Take: An apology is a start, but it only means something if the team on the field changes. Backing Robert Saleh and Mike Borgonzi now puts the clock squarely on them.
Team president and CEO Burke Nihill spoke with WKRN's Cory Curtis this week, per The Tennessean. "It's obvious to us, we know we've been letting our fans down," Nihill said. "It hurts... we owe (fans) more than what we've been offering in terms of team performance."
Nihill also spoke for controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk: "She's sorry. She's disappointed. She's grieving. She desperately wants the turnaround."
On football leadership, ESPN's Turron Davenport reports Nihill said the organization believes Saleh and Borgonzi are "ultimately going to get this team out of the woods." A to Z Sports notes the Titans are 6-33 since the start of the 2024 season, and its fan survey found 63% want to hear from Adams Strunk directly.
That's the tension. Fans asked for the owner; they got the CEO. The support for Saleh and the GM is clear, but patience is thin.
What to watch: Sunday in Indianapolis. Effort, early-down defense and Cam Ward's development will say more than any statement can.
