Tony Pollard Ran Like a Man on a Mission, and the Titans Owe Him More Help
Titans fans, for most of Sunday you got the running game we've been asking for all season. Tony Pollard ran like a man on a mission.
Our Take: Pollard did his part and then some. The Titans can't keep wasting days like this one, and that's on everyone around him.
Here's what we know. CBS Sports, via RotoWire, reports Pollard carried 25 times for 129 yards and three touchdowns, scoring from 36 and 10 yards in the first quarter and from one yard out in the fourth. He also caught all three of his targets. ESPN's recap says the 129 yards were a season high and that his third touchdown, with 58 seconds left, tied his career high and pulled the Titans even late. A field goal on the final play still sent Tennessee to 1-6.
ESPN also notes Pollard was stopped just short on a fourth-and-goal run earlier in the game, one of a handful of plays that swung a three-point loss.
The bigger point is simple. When the line blocked and the Titans stayed committed to the run, the offense looked like it had an identity. That's worth building on.
What to watch: whether the Titans lean on Pollard early again this week, and whether the defense can close out a game when the offense gives it a lead or a tie in the final minute.
