Two Stories in the Titans Secondary: Cor'Dale Flott Is Rolling, Alontae Taylor Is Sitting
Titans fans, Sunday stung. A 27-24 loss on the last play of the game, and a defense that couldn't close it out.
Our Take: The secondary is turning into two very different stories, and the Titans need to decide fast what Alontae Taylor is here for.
Start with the good. Cor'Dale Flott picked off another pass, his second interception in two weeks, according to A to Z Sports via Yahoo Sports. It's the first time he's had interceptions in back-to-back games, and he's already doubled his previous career high.
Now the head-scratcher. Taylor was active after being a healthy scratch the week before, yet he didn't play a single defensive snap, per that same report. On3 also listed him as active but not playing. A to Z Sports called him an expensive free agent addition who isn't contributing at all right now. That's a lot of sideline for a player brought in to fix this secondary.
The bigger issue was the whole back end late. The Titans allowed 8.3 yards per pass attempt, then gave up a 71-yard touchdown drive and a 60-yard drive that set up the winning field goal in the fourth quarter, per A to Z Sports. The defense simply couldn't get the stop it needed.
What to watch: whether Taylor finally gets a real defensive role this week, and whether Flott keeps finding the ball. If the Titans are going to win close games, the secondary has to finish them.
